The Wildcats nipped Madison, 62-61, at Butler Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Boys basketball captured the school's first title in 1949, winning the state's iconic single class postseason tournament. Athletics Įight Jasper High School athletic teams have won Indiana High School Athletic Association state championships with the most recent being in 2006. The new gymnasium has a seating capacity of 4,800. ![]() The school rebuilt the gymnasium and an open house and dedication ceremony was held on September 20, 2013. This was the first time the Cabby O’Neill had hosted Jasper High School athletic events since 1977. The school used the Cabby O'Neill Gymnasium, located near the courthouse on 6th street, Jasper, as a temporary replacement while a new gymnasium was built. On May 2, 2011, the main gym collapsed due to a buildup of rainwater on the roof, causing the school to be temporarily closed. Jasper draws students from the Bainbridge, Madison and Boone townships in Dubois County. In 2014, the school was once again recognized as an Indiana "four star school". The facilities include 206,000 square feet, built on 50 acres of land. Jasper High School was built in 1978 and subsequent remodeling was carried out in 2002. The school song is set to the tune "Indiana, Our Indiana", and the mascot is the wildcat. JHS has an enrollment of approximately 1,050 students. I was just there last year for a basketball game, and in many ways, it reminded me of Boonville's gym, although it's just a little bigger.īoth gyms are so deserving of being on this list. The second gym from the Evansville area that landed on the top ten list, is the Huntingburg Memorial Gymnasium, home of Southridge High School. which's enough seats for a concert if the opportunity arises. ![]() The Boonville High School Gym seats 5,650 fans. It was built in 1958, hosted so many basketball games, events, and even a former president of the United States! It's actually a pretty good-sized gym too. I'm super excited to see my alma mater, Boonville High School, come in at number 10 on this list. Two of the top ten gyms come from right here in the Evansville area.
